Care Support Worker Liz assists the nurses in the care of the children, young adults and their families. Here she tells us more about her role and what it means to be part of The Donna Louise team.
Angela has worked as a children's nurse at The Donna Louise since the very first day the Hospice opened in August 2003. She clearly remembers the first four children who stayed here and over the years has got to know, and care for, hundreds of children and their families.
John is one of The Donna Louise's Care Support Workers and plays a vital role in the day to day care of the children and young adults who come to the Hospice.
As a Care Support Worker his role is about doing everything he can to look after the children including keeping them entertained, caring for them and offering general support to their families.

Our Education and Development Lead, Gill Clifford opens up about what it’s like to work here at The Donna Louise
Gill joined The Donna Louise as a children's nurse 11 years ago. Having always worked in children's palliative care, she was no stranger to working with children, but her previous roles had been in the community, a hospital, in schools and working with health visitors. Gill had always enjoyed working with children with long-term conditions and being able to build relationships with them and their families. When the opportunity to work at The Donna Louise came up, Gill jumped at the chance to apply and joined the Hospice as a children's nurse.
Anthony Bunn, Editor of Duck Magazine, pays testament to The Donna Louise after a recent visit with the Stoke City Football Team
Fifteen years ago, I wrote a piece for The Guardian newspaper........Stoke-on-Trent had recently been voted something like the Least Desirable Place to Live in Britain. You'd think that as a Stoke City supporter, any title would be more than welcome, yeah? This obviously wasn't the case. So, I took to the laptop to write a riposte, a defence of The Potteries.
In my article, I commented how cities are hard to change and that you have to do the very best with what you've got. The likes of Chester, Durham and York are aesthetically stunning places. But the city of Stoke-on-Trent really is left holding the ace card.....
The London Marathon is the biggest in the UK and the largest fundraising event in the world! Over 40,000 people will be taking part on 23rd April 2017 and you could join them as part of #TeamDonnaLouise!
This year has been one of our most successful fundraising years at The Donna Louise and has put us in a financially strong position to develop some ambition plans for the future. We've continued to receive overwhelming support from our donors, volunteers and families and we're grateful to everyone who has supported us this year. For parents like Meghan this continued support means to world to not just her daughter Lyla, who stays here at the hospice, but to the whole family.
