Helen Delap, wife of former Stoke City and Ireland International midfielder, Rory Delap is to take on 40 charity challenges in her 40th year
Helen Delap, wife of former Stoke City and Ireland International midfielder, Rory Delap, is taking on the biggest challenge of her life to celebrate her 40th Birthday.
The mother of 3 has pledged to take part in 40 challenge events to raise £40,000 for The Donna Louise Children's Hospice.
Helen said: "As I approach my 40th birthday I began to think what could I do that was different than other years? I have been involved with the Donna Louise for a long while now and have completed challenges for them in the past, the last one being "Tower to Tower" which consisted of a team of us rowing from London Bridge to the Eiffel Tower.
So I thought why not try and attempt 40 challenges for them in my 40th year."
During her epic year, Helen will be attempting a variety of challenges including the Paris Half Marathon in March, a skydive in May, and trekking the Alps with husband Rory. Along the way, she will also be learning more about the work of The Donna Louise by volunteering at the hospice and learning Makaton, a type of sign language used by the staff and families of children who use the services.
A Sports Therapist by day, Helen will be fitting the challenges around her busy work and family life and has vowed to rope in her husband, 2 children, friends, family and work colleagues along the way.
Helen said: "I am excited & apprehensive about what will be thrown at me but absolutely buzzing to get going. The Donna Louise is an incredible charity and one that is very close to mine and Rory's hearts. They need to raise over £3million a year to care for hundreds of children, young people and their families, so I'm really passionate about reaching my target of £40,000."
