Gill Clifford

Gill joined The Donna Louise as a children's nurse 11 years ago. Having always worked in children's palliative care, she was no stranger to working with children, but her previous roles had been in the community, a hospital, in schools and working with health visitors. Gill had always enjoyed working with children with long-term conditions and being able to build relationships with them and their families. When the opportunity to work at The Donna Louise came up, Gill jumped at the chance to apply and joined the Hospice as a children's nurse.

Fifteen years ago, I wrote a piece for The Guardian newspaper........Stoke-on-Trent had recently been voted something like the Least Desirable Place to Live in Britain. You'd think that as a Stoke City supporter, any title would be more than welcome, yeah? This obviously wasn't the case. So, I took to the laptop to write a riposte, a defence of The Potteries.

In my article, I commented how cities are hard to change and that you have to do the very best with what you've got. The likes of Chester, Durham and York are aesthetically stunning places. But the city of Stoke-on-Trent really is left holding the ace card.....

This year has been one of our most successful fundraising years at The Donna Louise and has put us in a financially strong position to develop some ambition plans for the future. We've continued to receive overwhelming support from our donors, volunteers and families and we're grateful to everyone who has supported us this year. For parents like Meghan this continued support means to world to not just her daughter Lyla, who stays here at the hospice, but to the whole family.

Here at The Donna Louise we treasure every moment spent with our children and it's so important to make special memories. With this in mind we are thrilled to be working with local artist Rebecca Kerr who uses children's handprints to create beautiful pieces of art in multiple mediums such as framed pictures, mugs, plates and keyrings for parents to treasure forever.

As many of our supporters know, here at The Donna Louise Art Therapy is a massive part of our counselling services and many of our children and their relatives find that painting can often be a great way to express their feeling and emotions.
